Chapter Seventeen

Saint

The car was silent as we drove home. I know that the shit looked terrible but it wasn’t at all what it seemed.

Swaggering through the drug store, I grabbed a cart then ventured over to the snack aisle. Grabbing Ava five packs of Whoppers and a bag of sour cream and onion chips, I was about to find Ava and Jordyn when Shalana stepped into my path. She looked good, better than the last time I saw her, but she wasn’t touching Ava, that girl was perfect. Plus Shalana’s character made her a strong opp in my eyes.

Shalana didn’t owe me shit when I got out of prison. However, Shalana’s response when she realized I wasn’t of use to her was a complete change from any of our previous interactions. I looked out for Shalana because I fucked with her, no ulterior motives, but it was clear her feelings for me were contingent upon what I could do for her. Or rather, what Bishop could do for her by way of me since he had the money.

“Oh my God, Saint!” Shalana bubbled, surprising the shit out of me when she embraced me in a hug. I hadn’t run into Shalana since she dropped me off at my whip. Her greeting caught me off guard but I quickly broke the hug before Ava saw us.

“‘Sup,” I kept it simple.

“Nothing, how have you been?” She bubbled, probably noticing my fit and calculating the shit up.

“Good, just grabbing some stuff real quick. I gotta slide though.”

“Well it’s a pleasure seeing you again. I’m glad you’re doing fine and still handsome as ever,” she flirted as Ava entered the aisle with us.

As soon as our eyes connected I knew I fucked up. I promise I felt Ava’s heart shattering as she approached us. “Did you find the Whoppers, Saint?” Ava pried and I immediately noticed that Jordyn was fast asleep after all of that screaming she did. Without thinking, I responded in the worst way possible.

“Yeah I got them, let me have the medicine, since Jordyn is asleep you can take her to the car.” I passed Ava my keys after raising her candy in the air and at that moment, I realized I made shit worse.

Ava snatched the keys from me and I felt the pain residing in her. It was the same anger I felt at Bishop’s birthday party last week when Ava was talking to other niggas.

“Ava!” I called after her, prepared to explain myself, but she was out of the door and I didn’t need these weak ass employees trying to tackle me for stealing some shit I could afford. Rushing over to the line, I quickly placed my items on the counter and the cashier rang my shit up.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make your lady mad. Well if that’s your girl since you ain’t been out long enough to have a whole baby,” Shalana’s voice irritated my soul at that moment. It was clear she was trying to be messy the way she made that comment and I wasn’t going for it.
